Restitution

Restitution gives back the thing that an offender took, or its value, to the agent who owns it. Restitution repairs the material Damage: the part of the loss that persons can measure. Restitution alone does not erase Guilt. The moral debt comes from causation, and only Justice closes it, as the victim directs through Retribution or release. Punishment works through Restitution and Retribution, and one does not replace the other. The victim alone receives Restitution, and Proportion limits it.
