License

A Contract in which an owner transfers to another the use of something they own, on stated conditions. The licensee receives the thing, or a copy, together with the conditions; exceeding them triggers whatever the license set for that case -- return, payment, or loss of the use. The license never transferred use beyond its conditions, so the owner is the victim, and the remedy is the one the license names. A license binds only those who agreed to it; it creates no property in ideas and reaches no third party who never consented, as the entry on intellectual property explains. A license granted under Duress or with hidden terms is invalid. A license imposed by authority rather than agreed between trade partners is Regulation, not a real license.
