Hierarchy

A hierarchy is a structure in which some agents claim power above other agents, frequently without consent. Hierarchies become legitimate only through voluntary agreement. Forced hierarchies cause coercion and error, because power ignores incentives and increases ignorance. In infinite change, flat emergent orders, for example markets, do better than hierarchies that do not move.
